About basic design concept

Since we’re working with knit or jacquard designs, it is important to get familiar with technical aspects of such a process.

Jacquard designs are typically created using a knit fabric construction, allowing the designer to create intricate patterns within the fabric itself by manipulating the yarns during the knitting process.

Yarns for jacquards are available in 36 colors in our case.

Please note that these 4 colors are used for the whole product, including the main color (background), trims and everything else.

You can select any 4 colors for your design from the available palette (also available as a handy color swatch collection, see next chapter). Here are some examples of what counts as 4 colors and what doesn’t.

Anti Aliasing

Keep in mind that anti aliasing counts as a “new color”. An image might look like it’s using only 4 colors when viewed casually, but if we zoom in we can see that additional colors are used to smooth out the edges.

For that reason, avoid basing your designs on lots of very different and distinct colors. For example, a group portrait of people wearing different carnival clown costumes and playing with colorful balloons would have to be radically adapted in order to make it work as a jacquard based design. Color Indexing is the process of converting an image to the required colors needed for a jacquard design.
